Sunday School Groups
At Bartlesville First Church, we have many active small groups which meet on Sunday’s and throughout the week. We hope that you will take time to discover a small group that interests you.
Sunday Small Groups Overview
Sunday Small Groups meet on a regular basis with the goal of becoming more faithful disciples of Jesus Christ through study, prayer, worship, and personal support. Through weekly study, participants learn and become more challenged to become faithful disciples.
Look below to learn more about each group. Groups meet in between the two services. Start times at 10 a.m.
Meets at 10 a.m. in Room 152
This historic class was organized in November 1936 with 12 members. This medium-sized group consists mostly of adults with grown families. 20th Century has a regular long-term teacher who leads lessons and invites discussion using the Adult Bible Studies as a guide. Devotions, singing and prayers are led by members of the class. 20th Century currently sponsors and contributes annually to two endowed scholarships: one at Oklahoma City University and one at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The class has two socials every year. If you want to study the Bible and enjoy a mature, inviting group of retired seniors, age 70 and above, this class welcomes all ages, couples or individuals to come join them.
Meets at 10 a.m. in Barrett Hall
Aldersgate is an active, caring, open-minded and very social group of about 30 members ranging in ages from late 50s to early 70s. It is mostly couples, but has several individuals. Typical attendance is about 20. Teaching is shared by class members. Lessons are generally video-based discussions of contemporary issues for Christians, current world and church events. The class is mission and project-oriented. It provides ongoing financial support for the First Church youth department, holds an annual Christmas party for Methodist seniors at Green Country, and participates in other local mission projects. It has several class gatherings throughout the year, usually in the homes of one of its members.
Meets at 10 a.m. in Room 179
This is a friendly support group interested in spiritual growth. This class of couples and individuals has 20 members in attendance ranging in ages from young adult to post-retirement. Study materials are selected by the class and include Bible Studies, Cokesbury publications, and other Christian based literature. Teachers are class volunteers as well as church leaders. Asbury welcomes all to visit or join the group for Christian fellowship and social involvement.
Meets at 10 a.m. in Room 175
This group focuses on Bible studies and scripture based lessons in a relaxed and informal setting. The members are commonly young professionals coming from a wide range of religious backgrounds and understanding. The round-table format encourages asking questions and seeking answers. Discussions are led by rotating members and guest presenters.
Chinese Mission Group
The Chinese Mission group has 2 meeting times. One meeting is a Chinese Bible study which meets every 2nd and 4th Friday night from 7:30-9:30 p.m. This study is comprised of singing hymns and studying the Chinese Bible chapter by chapter. All readings and discussion are in Chinese and led by Judy Logan. The second Chinese mission group meeting is an English Bible study. This group meets every Sunday from 10 – 11 a.m. During this study, the group studies different topics in English Bible in English. This group is co-led by Nathan Ryan, Matt Jarvis, and Judy Logan.
The Chinese Mission group also participates in mission and social events. The Chinese Mission group delivered 30 Chinese/English Bibles to Fuxia Wang, Chinese Missionary at the Weslyan Church at OU. The Bibles were donated from a Missionary in China to Ponca City. The Missionary had them shipped from China to Ponca City hoping to find a good use for them. The BFC Chinese Bible Study group thought this would be an excellent use for them. While there Judy Logan and Kathy Zhang gave testimony about their call to Christ.
Meets at 10 a.m. in the Library
Crossroads class is a warm church family of caring people. This open-minded, non-judgmental group is intellectually stimulating and enjoys lively discussions! The road cross section of experiences and ideas in this class, allows many of its members to share the teaching responsibilities. Most study topics are College Course DVD’s about the Bible, the people of the Bible and the history of Christianity from the early days until today. Books, guest speakers, Bible related DVD’s, and movies add to a long list of studies. Mission projects and other needs are supported as they arise during the year. In addition, this fun-filled, young at heart group gets together socially on a regular basis. We welcome visitors, this class may be the right fit for your Sunday mornings!
Meets at 10 a.m. in Room 156
This class has a typical attendance of about 12-15. There are couples and individuals in this group with ages 75 and above. Class volunteers are teachers of the class with an occasional guest teacher – and lessons often include videos, group discussion and Bible study. Homebuilders is a warm and prayerful group with an active social calendar. Homebuilders extends an open invitation to anyone to come and join them.
H.I.M. (Home Improvement Ministries)
Meets at 10 a.m. in Room 177
This group has ages range from the 40’s to early 60’s and it includes couples as well as individuals. Lessons are taught by class members and guest speakers, with topics ranging from Bible studies to contemporary issues for Christians. Materials are selected from DVD series, books, and ideas from members. The class supports mission projects – both local and around the world. This is a fun and caring group that also enjoys getting together for social activities. This group always welcomes new people and invites you to come and share.
