This fall, we are creating new small groups called “Connect” groups. These are small groups that are modeled after early Wesleyan “classes.” In Wesley’s time, classes were intimate gatherings of 10 to 12 people who met regularly for personal supervision of spiritual growth. The focus of these classes was not on doctrine or biblical information, but on personal experience: sharing one’s own personal failings, inner battles, and struggles with faith. Our hope is that these groups will provide companionship, a safe space to ask questions, and challenge participants to explore their faith more deeply through the care and compassion of Christian community.
To begin organizing these groups, we first need dedicated, volunteer leaders who can commit to leading a Connect group either weekly or bi-weekly throughout the fall. Connect groups will meet virtually, via ZOOM, so some technological knowledge is helpful.
