Kevin Tully

Kevin Tully

Senior Pastor


The Reverend Dr. Kevin Tully has been Senior Pastor of Bartlesville First Church since 2008.   A native of Shawnee, Oklahoma, he holds degrees from Oklahoma City University, Southern Methodist University and Drew University. He has also done postgraduate studies in the field of pastoral psychotherapy at the Center for Counseling and Psychotherapy in Oklahoma City and Phillips Theological Seminary.

Dr. Tully has served churches in Oklahoma, Texas, and in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

In addition to his work in the church, Dr. Tully has also served as a parenting group facilitator for the Parent-Child Center of Tulsa and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater OKC.  Western Heights School District (Oklahoma City) honored him as Western Heights Academy’s “Volunteer Patron of the Year,” where he served as mentor to elementary and junior high students in the Western Heights Alternative School.  He presently serves on the Board of Directors for the Bartlesville Rotary Club, on the board of Green Country Village Retirement Village and is a trustee of the Oklahoma United Methodist Foundation.

Kevin and his wife, Georgia have three children: Paige (Mrs. Colin) Chenault of Dallas, Kyle, and Drew.

Tari Carbaugh

Pastor of Evangelism and Discipleship

An Okie since she was 5 years old, Tari graduated from Ponca City High School in 1983. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism from Oklahoma State University, and a Master of Divinity from Saint Paul School of Theology at Oklahoma City University. She has served as the assistant pastor and youth director at Dewey United Methodist Church, the pastor at Copan United Methodist Church and most recently held the position of associate director of institutional advancement at Saint Paul School of Theology. Having traveled and been away from her family for four years, Rev. Carbaugh is thrilled to be“home,” meaning home with her family, home in the Bartlesville community and home serving a local church.

Tari is married to Kent Carbaugh, an Information Security Specialist with ConocoPhillips. They have two daughters; Rusty, who is a flight attendant for United Airlines in Chicago, and Loni, who is working on her doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Besides being with her family, Tari loves horses (really all critters), reading, outdoor activities, and making friends everywhere she goes.

Wayne Middleton

Operations Manager

Wayne has been married to Ann for more than forty years.  They have two daughters and four grandchildren.  Wayne moved to Bartlesville before starting second grade.  His family joined Bartlesville First Church at that time.  He has a BBA from the University of Oklahoma and a MBA from the University of Tulsa.  Wayne is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor.  He served in the U. S. Army in personnel administration, where he spent a year at Fort Polk, Louisiana and eighteen months at Cam Ranh Bay, South Vietnam.  Wayne retired from Phillips Petroleum Company where he held a variety of supervisory and managerial positions in finance and information technology during a career that spanned more than thirty years.  Wayne is involved in many volunteer activities and holds positions in Lions Clubs International at the local club, district and state levels.

Wayne Ford

Director of Accounting

A native of the Texas Panhandle, Wayne has been director of accounting at First Church since June 2000.  A graduate of West Texas State University with a BBA in finance and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a master’s in religious education, Wayne was in the banking industry for many years before attending seminary.

Wayne is married to Lexa and they have two grown sons, Shelby and his wife, Jennifer, of Midwest City and Maury and his wife, Ashley, of Oklahoma City. Wayne and Lexa are the proud grandparents of Toby, Holly, Brady and Katherine Ford.

Gretta Parks

Accounting Associate

Gretta first became of member of First United Methodist Church (now known as Bartlesville First Church) in 1965. Due to her husband, Doug, being transferred to Kansas City back to Bartlesville and later to Colorado and once again back to Bartlesville she has jointed First United Methodist Church a total of three times the last being in 1988 when she and Doug returned to Bartlesville for the final time.  Doug and Gretta were high school sweethearts and have what is called “A long term marriage.” They have two sons, Stephen and Mitchell, who are both married. Stephen and his wife, Erika, live in Castle Rock, Colorado while Mitchell and his wife, Brandy and their three daughters (Jasmine, Cheyenne, and Savannah) live in Guthrie, Oklahoma. When she is with her granddaughters her name is Gigi and it makes Gretta so happy to finally be able to do girl stuff with them.

Gretta’s employment with Bartlesville First Church began in 1990 as a full time employee in the Accounting Department. She has continued working in the Accounting Department but now she works part-time. Working part-time, she says, gives her the best of both worlds. She treasures the friendships she has made  while working at Bartlesville First Church and finds fulfillment in her job responsibilities. When she is not working, she and Doug are season ticket holders to TU home football games;  Broadway Plays which comes to Tulsa and Tulsa Town Hall speaking events all of which she enjoys very much.   She collect antiques, enjoys seasonal decorating her home, gardening, exercising, participating in special organizations she is involved with and reading a good book.  She is currently  building a seven (7) room doll house and is looking forward to completing the building part and begin furnishing it.

When asked to share she favorite Bible passage said she doesn’t really have a favorite, but finds herself when reading the Bible thinking “Gee, I really like what I have just read”. She does have a very special devotional book she reads daily and that is “Jesus Calling” and recommends the book to all who are interested in establishing a loving relationship with Jesus.

Cyndi Chamberlin

Administrative Assistant

Cyndi joined the First Church family February 2016. She has served in youth ministry for over 17 years. She and her wonderful husband Jerry have a two-year-old son named Jonah. She is a gifted wedding coordinator, youth associate, and administrative assistant.  Cyndi’s passion for ministry is rooted in her years as a student growing up in the United Methodist Church. Cyndi studied Biology at OSU-OKC. Prior to moving to Bartlesville, she served as a Pharmacy Technician, Bank Teller, and Secretary in the Oklahoma City area.

Celeste Barrett

Director of Traditional Music

A Bartlesville native, Celeste graduated from Sooner High School and Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance. After spending seven years in Los Angeles, studying voice and opera, she went to the Zurich Opera as an apprentice. After a year and a half in Switzerland, she joined the Hagen City Theater, in Germany, where she sang for 18 years. She returned to Bartlesville in 2001 and taught at Tulsa University. She currently is adjunct professor of voice at Oklahoma Wesleyan University as well as director of traditional music at Bartlesville First Church.

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor heights nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.  -Romans 8:38-39

Susan Mueller

Music Associate

Susan Mueller is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a degree in music education and Southern Methodist University with a master’s in choral conducting.

She taught vocal music for five years in the Jenks Public Schools, and for 20 years at Bartlesville High School. During those years, her choirs were awarded many superior ratings, gold awards, sweepstakes awards, and sweepstakes plus plaques. Susan also taught both choral music and music education courses for several years on the college level – at Oral Roberts University and Bartlesville Wesleyan College (now Oklahoma Wesleyan University).

In 2006, she was selected as Bartlesville High School’s Teacher of the Year, and in 2007, was chosen the Director of Distinction by the Oklahoma Choral Directors Association. In 2008, Susan was inducted in to the Oklahoma Music Education Association Hall of Fame.

After retiring from the Bartlesville schools in 2008, she continues as conductor of the Bartlesville Choral Society and as pianist at First Church.

Stephen Bumgarner

Director of Student Ministries

Stephen Bumgarner spent most of his life in Mustang, OK where he attended Mustang UMC. He received his calling into Youth Ministry his senior year of high school. During the next ten years he served as the youth minister and contemporary worship leader for various churches and ministries across the state including Oklahoma City, Waukomis, Ft Gibson, Mustang and Norman.

When he’s not spending time with youth, he’s on stage leading our contemporary service on Sunday mornings. Stephen started leading worship for his youth group as a freshman in high school. Through the years he’s built a passion for singing and leading praise songs with a constant attitude of wanting to learn more and more. Stephen is happily married to his wife Felicia. They plan to have a full household whenever God blesses them with that gift. Until then they spend most of their extra energy on spoiling their three nephews.

Director of Children and Family Ministries

Laura Painchaud is delighted to serve in ministry at First Church as Director of Children and Family Ministries.

Laura was raised in the United Methodist Church and has taught pre-school aged children at Lake Junaluska United Methodist Conference and Retreat Center in North Carolina and at Southern Hills UMC Early Childhood Program in Lexington, Kent. She has also served in Children’s Ministries at Children’s Center Lighthouse in Tallinn, Estonia, where she enjoyed leading Vacation Bible School for children in need of an alternative to life on the streets.

Laura holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from Southwestern University and enjoys running, hiking, and other outdoor activities.  Laura has been together with Austin Painchaud since 2011 and is getting married to him on August 20, 2016.

Children’s Ministry Associate (Volunteer Leader)

CJ was raised in Gilmer, Texas where she spent loads of time learning and worshipping at First United Methodist Church. Her college years were spent at Texas A&M University and Texas A&M Wesley Foundation. She says that the Wesley Foundation taught her about service projects and true acceptance by the church.

After college, CJ taught junior high and high school math in Center Point, Bandera, LaGrange and Giddings, Texas.  She also worked in Christian education in United Methodist churches in Boerne, Bandera, Kerrville, La Grange, and Mason, Texas.  CJ was very active with United Methodist Women while living in Texas—she served as a conference officer for eight years and a district officer for four years. She learned about the International Christmas Market through UMW and has been continuing that ministry for over 25 years.

CJ moved to Bartlesville in 2005 to teach math at Nowata High School. She now teaches Geometry at Bartlesville High School. She joined Bartlesville First Church in July 2006 and began working with the children’s music in August 2006. She now works as an associate in Children’s Ministry helping in many different ways.  She has been a site coordinator/supervisor for  Project Transformation since it started in Bartlesville. CJ is part of the missions committee, children’s council, United Methodist Women, and the Sanctuary Choir at Bartlesville First Church. CJ’s family includes her cats Milo and Tenny.

Desira Mathes

Director of Communications

Desira is a native of Nowata, Okla. where she graduated high school in 2003. She graduated from Tulsa Community College with an Associate’s degree in Business. Desira and her husband, Clay, were married in 2007. In January 2010 they welcomed their daughter, Jerika, in April 2012 they welcomed their son, William, and in November 2014 they welcomed another son, Troy. Desira was hired as the Director of Communications at Bartlesville First Church in July 2010.


Joel Bernstein

Director of Media Ministries

Joel is a native Californian who transplanted to Oklahoma when his now wife got into Oklahoma State University’s Veterinary Medicine Program. They moved here in 2005 and are enjoying life here.  Joel’s background is in concert sound production and live television production.  In 2003, Joel was an audio engineer on the Vans Warped tour, traveling to 30 states and 3 Canadian providences, doing 45 shows in 51 day period.

After his “rock star” days, Joel met his now wife and gave up the tour life.  After his wife, Sarah, finished vet school, they settled in Bartlesville, where she is originally from.  They opened her mobile veterinary practice, 4 The Animals Veterinary Clinic in 2009.  Along with the vet business they also do a lot of animal rescue, transport and outreach for animals within the community. Many times you can find a plethora of foster animals at their house.

In 2010 they adopted their 2 children from Ethiopia. Both kids have adjusted well to the American life style. Their son, Amanuel, plays competitive soccer and is quite the athlete in Basketball also. Their daughter, Demekech, is more the artistic type. She enjoys playing violin and wants to start acting. In June of 2016, Joel and his wife, Sarah,  welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world. Eden is growing quickly and enjoys spending time at the church learning the ins and outs of everyone’s job.

Along with working at the church, Joel still enjoys working freelance television. He predominately works for Cox, doing audio for their local broadcasts. He also fills in for Fox sports working with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Oklahoma State University and University of Oklahoma. He also enjoys video games and playing guitar, when time permits.

Hartley Colson

Communications Associate

Hartley Colson was born and raised in Missouri, but grew up a Texan by her Amarillo native parents. Hartley has a passion for all things art, like her father. She is an alumnus of the Missouri Fine Arts Academy. After high school she attended Oklahoma Wesleyan University with a major in Media Design and Strategy. She started working for Kids First while still attending school in 2012 as a part time teacher. She later began working for the church as the Communication Associate in 2015. She loves being a part of a team whose center focus is making disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Katrina Bullock

Communications Associate

Katrina graduated from Bartlesville High School in 2014. She obtained an Associates of Applied Science degree in Early Childcare from Oklahoma Wesleyan University in 2015. She began working for Bartlesville First Church in Dec. 2015. Katrina feels that she has finally found her passion, graphic design.

Katrina will be getting married in Nov. 2017 to her high school sweetheart Jonathan Spalding. Katrina and Jonathan have a sweet dog named Kaity that loves to run and play tug-a-war. Katrina enjoys reading and doing puzzles with Jonathan in their free time.

Bill Buoy

Supervisor of Building and Grounds

Bill was born and raised in Grove, OK.   Bill previously worked at Amazon Distribution Center as a safety coordinator.  He lives with his dog, Louie.  Bill enjoys spending time with his nephews, and watching movies and TV shows such as Star Wars and Parks and Recreation.  His favorite sports team is the Boston Red Sox.  Bill started working for Bartlesville First Church in 2009.

Rebecca Brown

Director of Food Services

Rebecca Brown has been cooking for the people of Bartlesville First Church since 2011. A graduate of College High School in Bartlesville, Rebecca says she has years of experience cooking for her three children. In fact, it’s been her dream to own a café named “A Little Piece of Heaven.” Years ago, when Rebecca was homeless and pregnant with her first child, her grandmother inspired her by teaching her to cook and sew. Now Rebecca strives to be an inspiration to each of her four grandchildren. Rebecca graduated from Tri County Technology Center for Accounting in 2016. On December 19, 2015, Rebecca married Paul Brown.

Rebecca loves her job and the people that God has placed in her life. She enjoys feeding people and sharing God’s love through food.

Heather Mayfield

Kitchen Associate

Heather has worked for Bartlesville first church for 13 years. She is a Bartlesville native. Heather graduated from Bartlesville High school in 1995, and then from Culinary Arts at Tri- County Tech in 1996.
